Hingis Reclaims Doubles No. 1; Ram Victorious In Shenzhen

Two Mylan WTT Family members captured doubles titles over the weekend, including Washington Kastles superstar Martina Hingis.

Hingis will return to No. 1 in the individual WTA Doubles Rankings on Monday as a result of her performance with Yung-Jan Chan in Wuhan. The red-hot tandem lifted their third successive trophy and eighth team title this season, edging Shuko Aoyama and Yang Zhaoxuan 7-6(5), 3-6, 10-4 on Hingis’ 37th birthday this past Saturday.

Hingis, who will celebrate her 67th week atop the doubles rankings, and Chan, have already qualified for the season-ending WTA Finals Singapore. The pair has won 14 matches in a row, dating back to title runs in Cincinnati and the US Open.

“Right now we feel like we are the team to beat, the hot team till the end,” Hingis told the WTA website. “It's a nice position to be in.”

Rajeev Ram (San Diego Aviators) triumphed in Shenzhen alongside Alexander Peya in the duo’s first tournament. Ram and Peya, the second seeds, eased past No. 1 seeds Nick Monroe and Nikola Mektić 6-3, 6-2.

“When he called, it was a great opportunity for me as well. So happy it worked out,” Ram reflected with the ATP website. “I think we played some great tennis, and really played the big points well today in the final.”

The victory marked Ram’s fourth doubles crown of the year, adding to victories at Indian Wells and Delray Beach with Aviators teammate Raven Klaasen, and Newport with Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi. Ram and Klaasen reunite in Tokyo this week against a strong field that also includes Jean-Julien Rojer (Springfield Lasers), Bruno Soares and Treat Huey (Washington Kastles), and Ryan Harrison (San Diego Aviators).
