OT: Ashley Harkleroad is on the comeback trail

New mom Ashley Harkleroad.will start her tour comeback this summer in the Advanta WTT Pro League.  Ashley will play for the New York Sportimes, a team that is also coached by her fiance Chuck Adams.  Ashley talks about the challenges of getting back on court and in shape after giving birth to her son Charlie in late March.

Hello everyone,

I am going to give you a quick update on my life as a new mommy, and how my preparation for coming back on tour is going. My comeback will start with this year’s World TeamTennis season.  I will be playing for the New York Sportimes and I'm very excited to be back in New York once again.
The past few weeks I have been trying to get my body back in shape.  It’s been a little hard because I have a few aches and pains due to carrying around an extra 35 pounds, and pushing out an 8 pound baby.  Finally after six weeks I feel as though I can move around more freely without the concern of injuring myself.  I'm starting to hit the ball better and better and gradually working my way up to two hour workouts a day.

Balancing being a mom and a professional tennis player isn't easy and it’s a full-time job . . .but I'm loving every minute of it.  My little boy (his name is Charlie) is starting to smile in response to our smiles and that's an amazing feeling!  He is sleeping better at night.  I am only waking up once or twice in the middle of the night and hopefully soon he will be able to sleep through the whole night.  That would be AWESOME!  Well, that's what's going on here in Malibu at the moment. I will keep you updated on my progress on court and baby Charlie's progress as well.

Thanks guys,
