Five teams earn bid to Nationals in fourth Mylan WTT Rec national qualifier of 2016

Virginia Beach, V.A. (May 24, 2016) - The Mylan WTT Rec League held its fourth contest of the year over the weekend in Virginia Beach, V.A., with 9 teams competing in five divisions. In the end, five teams won titles to be competitors at the Mylan WTT Nationals at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif., November 4-6.

Competing teams represented two states at the tournament held at the Owl Creek Tennis Center in Virginia Beach, V.A. Those advancing to the Nationals include RPTC Long 4 Shots, RPTC Tried & Shot, LUV2PLA, all of Virginia Beach, V.A.; Woodstock, of Ephrata, P.A.; and VA Acers, of Fredericksburg, V.A.

The remaining Qualifiers on the Mylan WTT Rec League schedule are as follows: June 10-12 in Key Biscayne, Fla. (Senior divisions only); July 8-10 in Kansas City, Mo.; August 12-14 in Landisville, Pa., and Raleigh, N.C.; and September 16-18 in Irvine, Calif.

SENIOR 3.5 DIVISION:
 
Only one team competed in the Senior 3.5 Division, which led them to be placed among the Senior 4.0 competitors. RPTC Long 4 Shots, led by non-playing captain Charlie Pittman, ended up with an 0-2 round robin score but will still be heading to Nationals! Members include Carolyn Werner, Daniel Griff, Judy Isak, Margaret Pittman, Rosanne Simon, Samuel Hill, Susan Hill, Thomas Werner, William Simon, all of Virginia Beach, V.A.; David Cline, Chesapeake, V.A.
 
SENIOR 4.0 DIVISION:

In the Senior 4.0 Division, two teams competed, along with one team from the Senior 3.5 division, for the bid to Nationals. Woodstock (pictured to the right), led by Ariff Sumar, ended up being unbeatable in their division with a round robin tally of 3-0. Members include Cathy Wood, Pequea, P.A.; Terry Farley, Mechanicsburg, P.A.; Kristin Schlageter, Linda Scott, Eric Glatsky, all of Lancaster, P.A. 

SENIOR 4.5 DIVISION:

In the Senior 4.5 Division, two teams played each other competitively for the bid to Nationals! Each team got a close win in the first two rounds, which led to an exciting final match. In the final VA Acers barely pulled the win over Team Lancaster with a score of 26-25. VA Acers is led by Suzanne McInteer of Fredericksburg, V.A. The rest of the team heading to Nationals includes Brenda Chistoforatos, Jack Tracy, Jerry Christoforatos, Mae King, Widna Benitez, Fredericksburg, V.A.; Maureen Blackwood, Henrico, V.A.; Timothy Waters, Alexandria, V.A.

SUPER SENIOR 3.5 DIVISION:
 
The 3.5 Super Seniors was just as exciting as the Senior 4.5 Division. With only two teams set to play, both won a match in the first two rounds. Heading into the final round with one win each, RPTC Tried & Shot barely got the bid to Nationals with a score of 25-24 over Net Force 2. RPTC Tried & Shot is led by Charlie Pittman of Virginia Beach, V.A. The team includes Mike Hayes, Donna Bosze, Sarah McKown, Linda Mixner, Walter Wexel, all of Virginia Beach, V.A.; Debi Karst, Daniel Weckstein, both of Chesapeake, V.A.

SUPER SENIOR 4.0 DIVISION:
 
The Super Senior 4.0 Division had a total of two teams competing for the bid to Nationals. In two matches, LUV2PLA (pictured to the left) proved themselves worthy of Nationals by winning twice over Net Force 1. LUV2PLA is led by Doug Atkins of Virginia Beach, V.A. The team includes Phil Meadows, Barbara Langbord, Brenda Wexel, Judith Wirsing, Manny Bagtas, Udaya Shetty, Lynn Utecht, all of Virginia Beach, V.A.; Roy Loehr, Chesapeake, V.A.; Carolyn Ware, Norfolk, V.A.
