Four teams earn bid to Nationals in fifth Mylan WTT Rec national qualifier of 2016

Key Biscayne, Fla. (June 15, 2016) - The Mylan WTT Rec League held its fifth contest of the year over the weekend in Key Biscayne, Fla., with 8 teams competing in four divisions. In the end, four teams won titles to be competitors at the Mylan WTT Nationals in Indian Wells, Calif., November 4-6.

Competing teams represented four towns in Florida at the tournament held at the Crandon Park Tennis Center in Key Biscayne, Fla. Those advancing to the Nationals include Babes & Boomers, of Miramar, Fla. (pictured to the right); Intrepids and Super Senior Intrepids, both of Miami Gardens, Fla.; and Aces, of Miami, Fla. 

The remaining Qualifiers on the Mylan WTT Rec League schedule are as follows: July 8-10 in Kansas City, Mo.; August 12-14 in Landisville, Pa., and Raleigh, N.C.; and September 16-18 in Irvine, Calif.

SENIOR 3.5 DIVISION:
 
Three teams competed in the Senior 3.5 Division. With a few returning players, Babes & Boomers were able to lead the competition with a great round robin record of 4-0. Oak Grove Aces couldn’t beat Babes & Boomers but were able to leave with two wins over Net It Bee. Babes & Boomers of Miramar, Fla., is led by Noordin Lalani. Members include Madatali Panjwnai, Davie, Fla.; Filomena Cantillana, Patricia Amat y Leon, Lisa Kornse, all of Key Biscayne, Fla.; and Paula Barth, Simon Onabowale, Peter Roscia, all of Miami, Fla. 

 
SENIOR 4.0 DIVISION:

In the Senior 4.0 Division, two teams competed against each other in a round robin format to earn the bid to Nationals. With each going into the final match with a win under their belt, Intrepids (pictured to the left), the defending National Champion of the division, was able to come out on top over Love Players with a score of 32-21. Intrepids is led by Norflett Harris of Miami Gardens, Fla. Members include Ashley Chung, Rochester, N.Y.; Cynthia Poellnitz, Okatie, S.C.; Elesa Thompson, Hope Babolal, Luther Mathews, Sylvinia David, all of Miami, Fla.; Jose Galloway, Miami Lakes, Fla.; Lincoln Smith, Weston, Fla.; Marsha Moore, Miami Gardens, Fla.; and Willie Marshall, Miramar, Fla.

 

 

SUPER SENIOR 3.5 DIVISION:
 
The 3.5 Super Senior Division was only comprised of one team. Therefore, the Aces competed in the tough Super Senior 4.0 Division. Aces will be heading to Nationals, where they will face more competition. Aces is led by Siriporn Burke of Miami, Fla. Members include Carlos Serrano, Peter Roscia, Tracy O’Connell, Chie Hoban, all of Miami, Fla.; Jene Andre, Coconut Grove, Fla.; Lavenia Ferguson, Novelty, Ohio.; Raul Grandle, Hialeah, Fla.; Roger Bell, Miramar, Fla.; and Viviana Goris, Key Biscayne, Fla. 

 

SUPER SENIOR 4.0 DIVISION:
 
The Super Senior 4.0 Division had a total of two teams competing for the bid to Nationals. With the addition of Aces from the Super Senior 3.5 Division, Super Senior Intrepids led the competition with a round robin total of 2-0. Riff Rafters was close behind going 1-1. Super Senior Intrepids is led by non-playing coach Fred Biggs. Members include Ashley Chung, Rochester, N.Y.; Jessie David, Marlene Woodpross, Mindy Rodney, James Winston, all of Miami, Fla.; Lincoln Smith, Weston, Fla.; Mel Gutgsell, Mike Kowal, Susan Culligan, all of Miami Beach, Fla.; and Norflett Harris, Miami Gardens, Fla.
