Monday MVP: Raven Klaasen
February 27, 2017
Raven Klaasen picked up his first ATP doubles title of the season over the weekend and in turn, is this week’s Mylan WTT Family MVP.
Klaasen, who has spent the past three seasons with the San Diego Aviators, teamed up with regular partner Rajeev Ram to capture the Delray Beach Open over Mylan WTT veteran Treat Huey and Max Mirnyi, 7-5, 7-5. Klaasen and Ram dropped just one set en route to their fourth team title.
“I think Rajeev and I have done some good things to improve our games and this week was another progression for us as a team,” Klaasen told the ATP website. “The crowd has been great all week. People really enjoy their doubles here and that makes it fun for us.”
As a result, Klaasen moved up a spot in the ATP Doubles Rankings to No. 12. His career-high is No. 9, which he achieved last June.
Jack Sock of the Springfield Lasers also tasted victory in Delray Beach. After reaching the final, Sock was awarded the trophy following Milos Raonic’s withdrawal. The walkover handed Sock his second crown of 2017, adding to his triumph in Auckland.
Set to suit up for his first season of Mylan WTT this summer, Sock is the current top-ranked American, moving up to a career-best mark of world No. 18. The Kansas City, Kan. resident is 11-1 on the season and now turns to the Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco this week.
